The spatial variability of LSL trends has recently come into focus and we begin to understand the order of magnitude. The reconstruction by Church et al. shows a spatial variability of the LSL trend on the order of +/- 2 mm/yr. Much of the variability comes from thermal expansion, but other contributions are due to post-glacial rebound, present-day melting of glaciers and ice sheets, and deformations of the solid Earth due to geodynamic processes.
